MSM Summer Specialization courses - customizing your MBA to match your career ambitions

26-07-2018

“I couldn’t have asked for a better learning experience.” MSM MBA student Lawin Ileto said this after successfully completing the 2-week MSM specialization course in International Business and Sustainability.

From the 7th of July until the 21st of July MSM welcomed around 110 participants from 30 different countries to the MSM Summer Specializations. The group consisted of participants from the MSM residential full-time MBA, Executive MBA and Online MBA, plus around 55 participants from MSM’s outreach partners and some external schools.

“The International Business and Sustainability specialization course gave me the chance to follow a crash course on current hot topics such as the Value Chain, Human Resource Management, Green Innovation and Global Business. We were taught by four experts from different parts of the world: Germany, the Netherlands, South Africa and Serbia. A lot of the topics were new but I felt that it was also a deep dive and continuation of two core subjects we completed, which I really enjoyed, namely; Corporate Social Responsibility and Managing Cultural Diversity.”

Next to the specialization in International Business and Sustainable Development courses were given in: Accounting and Finance, The Digital Economy, Entrepreneurship and Healthcare Management. The specialization course in Sports Management already kicked off on 23 June.

On 7 July the students were welcomed by Mr. David Cass, Director Education and Executive Development after which the classes started. One of the highlights of the specialization course for Lawin Ileto was the interaction with the students from MSM’s outreach partners and Executive MBA students. “Working on group projects with more senior MBA students from different parts of the world provided me with fresh perspectives and brought new working styles to the table”.

Sushan Shetty, MSM MBA student, chose to follow the specialization course in The Digital Economy. “Considering that I come from a mix of technology and business background, and having finished most of my full-time MBA, this specialization provided me with a lot of added value. It was absolutely enriching and it has placed me in the right spot to market myself in the digital world. We also had a good mix of students in the class coming from various backgrounds, leading to interesting discussions and perspectives.”

The students also enjoyed several guest lectures and company visits to The Princess Maxima Center, Domus Medica, Gulpener, The Dutch National Bank, Eurofiber, Top Vintage and Kembit. The guest lectures and the company visits were all connected to the specific specialization and gave the students the opportunity to connect theory to practice.

For Bence Körmendi, one of the students of MSM’s Hungarian outreach partner School for Executive Education and Development (SEED), the ’Maastricht experience’ was very positive. “The courses have added great value and we form a really strong group here. The great skills and competence level of the class is appreciated by everyone”. Next to the students from MSM’s outreach partner SEED, students from the Regional Information Technology Institute (RITI) in Egypt, School of Industrial Management (SIM) in Vietnam, MSM Kuwait, CENTRUM Católica Graduate Business School in Peru and GIPA in Georgia attended the specialization courses in Maastricht.
