MSM Corporate week: a key ingredient for the future of our students

20-06-2018

Organized for the second time MSM held its “Corporate week” from 11 June – 15 June to provide its Master in Management, MBA students and alumni with information related to career development, working in the Netherlands and strengthening career management skills. For MSM’s corporate partners it was the ultimate way to connect with students and find potential talent.

The MSM Corporate week officially kicked off on Monday 11 June. During the week MSM students and alumni could attend several company presentations by AccentureArionTalkwalkerKPMGWeir Minerals, DHL, BrightlandsCorporis MedicalMercedes, Arcelor Mittal and Johnson Controls. Furthermore they were treated with several workshops and personal development information sessions organized by Marcel Dautzenberg from Holland Expat Center South, Sven Lingens from RWTH Aachen, Jeroen Tessels from Troeba Theater & Training, Sonja Vlaar from Attune, Romeo Oehlers from rhO Training and Alex den Haan from Academic Transfer.

MSM MM student Dixon Block speaks full of praise about the MSM Corporate Days:

“The MSM corporate days were a great way to really bind together everything that we’ve learned through the year. All the different topics from different courses came together and were relative in some way to each corporate partner that presented to us! Each presentation had its own merits.
Even the companies that did not appeal at first to my personal interests managed to intrigue me in some way. Moreover, some companies I had never heard of before had me immediately looking up vacancies because I was so impressed by their company culture or their industry!”

Halina Wiktor and Daniel Köthe, talent acquisition specialists, Talkwalker stated:

“We would be more than happy to participate again in the future. Our experience was positive, and we were pleasantly surprised by the engagement of the students. This event gave us more in-depth knowledge regarding the drive and motivation of young professionals today. Understanding what exactly drives a person to apply to one firm over another, is extremely helpful from an HR perspective, developing awareness on how to attract young talent.”

Hermina Kooyman, Deputy Director of Global Education Programs at MSM commented:

“The aim of the MSM Corporate Week is to connect students with companies that are looking for international profiles, and to open students’ horizons to what is available. The MSM Career Services team has been working on this event for more than 6 months and are very happy with the result. Both the companies and students had very positive feedback, and all evaluations had extremely high ratings from students. The diversity of the companies (big, small, start-up, international, local and in many different sectors) and the amount of job openings and interest by the companies in the diversity of MSM students (backgrounds, interests, nationalities) made for some great matches. I am looking forward to an even bigger and more exciting event next year!

On Friday 15 June the official part of the MSM corporate week ended with a presentation and panel discussion organized by MSM alumni Julia Taddei, Wanjiku Githegi, Despoina Polyzoidou and Sumiran Singh. They talked about their experiences on looking for a job and gave some tips to current students on what worked for them and the challenges they have faced. To celebrate the success of this very inspiring MSM corporate week all students, corporate partners, alumni, staff and mentors were invited to a networking picnic!

A special THANK YOU to the Corporate Week team, including Manon Souren-Huppertz, Denise Dupont, Arsenio Kranenburg, Erik Bartels, the Communications team and the Catering team. Without you, the Corporate Week would not have been such a success!
