Meet MSM's staff members: Introducing Mr. Stef Bolte

17-12-2018

At MSM we are proud of the more than 40 staff members who are committed and eager to fulfill our mission in offering management and entrepreneurship education, advice and research to individuals and organizations from all over the world. To become more acquainted with our staff members and to show you how it feels for them working at MSM we will each month highlight one of our staff members. This month the spotlight will be on Mr. Stef Bolte.

Let me introduce myself…
My name is Stef Bolte and I am Admissions and Education Officer at MSM. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from the Utrecht University of Applied Sciences , a Master degree from the National University of Malaysia and another Master degree from Malmö University. My (research) interests are mostly in Intercultural Communication, Culture and Media, and Critical Discourse Analysis.

My work experience is quite diverse. I worked for example in Bosnia for the Stabilisation Force (SFOR peacekeeping mission) and did some long-term volunteer work with NGO’s in Sierra leone and Indonesia. I also lived in Malaysia for over 5 years and mainly worked in the areas of university/community engagement & volunteerism, student mobility/ recruitment and communications. Back in the Netherlands, I organised projects for the integration of refugees in the Dutch society before joining MSM in 2017.

Building relations with students and to assist them to embark with this challenging program, is truly fulfilling. ..
The admissions office is probably not the most ‘visible’ department within MSM, but we ensure that the potential MBA and MM students meet our requirements and profile, and that their documents are legitimate and complete. Beside this, we coordinate the admission process for the Master programmes taught at partner institutions around the globe, meaning that all students applying for a MSM Master Degree programme are seen by the admission office.

Equally important is that from the application until the actual start of the programme in Maastricht, we assist all residential programme students in every possible way on their exciting journey to Maastricht (e.g. student visa, finance, life in the Netherlands and/ or any other inquiry the student may have). This also includes consulting students in submitting applications for Scholarships from Nuffic! Building up relations with students and to assist them to embark with this challenging programme, is truly fulfilling.

MSM, being a signatory to the PRME is one of the reasons I feel making a positive contribution to sustainable development…
I have always been concerned with human rights and social change, and working for MSM, being a signatory to the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) is one of the reasons I feel making a positive contribution to sustainable development. This is reinforced by the strong ties we have with the Nuffic scholarships, which enables qualified people from selected countries to get excellent education and to make an impact in their communities upon their return.

In my spare time you can often find me…
Cooking! When I am at home, I spend much of my time in the kitchen. If I am not in the kitchen, you can find me in my lounge chair reading news, politics and opinion magazines. I also love to go outdoor for a hike or fishing (pike & bass) together with my wife and daughter, but not when it is raining. When it rains we prefer to play on the PS5, watch scary movies or tease/play with our cat Kano and budgie Shao Kahn.
