Meet MSM's staff members: introducing Johanna Korff

04-11-2019

At MSM, we are proud of the more than 47 staff members who are committed and eager to fulfill our mission in offering management and entrepreneurship education, advice and research to individuals and organizations from all over the world. To become more acquainted with our staff members and to show you how it feels for them working at MSM we will each month highlight one of our staff members. This month the spotlight will be on Johanna Korff.

Let me introduce myself…
My name is Johanna (German) and I work as a Quality Enhancement Officer at MSM. I studied Instrumental Pedagogy and Music Performance at the Conservatories in Darmstadt (Germany) and Maastricht with classical guitar and viola as main instruments. In addition, I studied alternative therapies focussing on Cranio-sacral-therapy & Rebalancing in Belgium and the Netherlands.

I am honest if I say that I have seen almost each department within MSM where I have fulfilled several administrative and coordinating positions. So I am kind of a Jack of all trades :) easy going, eager and a fast learner! Through my music study, I learned many qualifications that I can use now for my work at MSM: flexibility, creativity, team spirit, focus and self-motivation.

I really enjoy this technical work, which requires a lot of logical thinking and perfectionism…
I believe everybody strives for quality in his or her work. Nevertheless, it is important to streamline this ambition for quality within an organization. At MSM, we need and want to guarantee a high-level quality to our students and clients. Currently I am involved in implementing a software application for faculty related data. The software will centralize the relevant data and herewith support the efficiency of data collection and processing within MSM. Although I do not have any IT background, I really enjoy this technical work, which requires a lot of logical thinking and perfectionism. My German background for sure influenced my affinity for quality. :-)

Where I come from only the music counts, not your status, culture or habits…
The world of classical music, where I come from, is very international. You work and play together regardless your background; only the music counts, not your status, culture or habits. This experience helped me to easy adapt to the international environment at MSM. I still enjoy meeting people from all over the world with their own experiences and cultural characteristics. It opens my eyes and often changes my perspective on certain topics or situations.

Actually, since last year I give a workshop on work-life-balance to the MSM MBA and Master in Management students…
Besides my work at MSM, I have my own practice for Rebalancing, Cranio-sacral-therapy and Coaching. Many people nowadays feel disrupted between work, family, hobby’s etc. and experience a lot of stress and pressure by trying to fulfil the expectations from all sides. I guide them in their process of relaxing mentally and physically with the aim to re-connect with their body, feelings and emotions. This work is not only my passion, but it also helps me to stay in balance in my own life. It is also great that I can share this experience with my colleagues and students who are interested. Actually, since last year I give a workshop on work-life-balance to the MSM MBA and Master in Management (MM) students. I believe it is essential for managers and leaders to not only have the theoretical knowledge about their work, but also to be well prepared to survive in a very stressful and demanding environment. With my workshop, I hope to provide skills and techniques to our students that will help them to stay balanced during their study and future life.
