Meet MSM's staff members: Introducing Carolijn Spaninks

23-04-2019

At MSM we are proud of the more than 47 staff members who are committed and eager to fulfill our mission in offering management and entrepreneurship education, advice and research to individuals and organizations from all over the world. To become more acquainted with our staff members and to show you how it feels for them working at MSM we will each month highlight one of our staff members. This month the spotlight will be on Carolijn Spaninks

Let me introduce myself…
My name is Carolijn and I am working as HR officer at MSM. I hold a bachelor degree in Business & Communication from Business School Notenboom in Maastricht (NL). In addition I followed several minors in HRM from Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in Sittard (NL). During my study I had the opportunity to live abroad to do an internship in Paris. This has been a great experience for me and this period taught me some important lessons in life.

Before joining MSM in 2016, I have been working in different HR positions at DSM for 9 years.  In these positions, I learned a lot about HR issues, administrative HR activities in international hiring procedures and providing guidance in several HR areas such as health and recruitment. Through my working experience I have gained more insight in my own strengths and weaknesses which helped me to choose a specific career path.

It is great to see new MSM employees grow and become a great asset to MSM…
Working as HR Officer at MSM means that my colleagues and I are responsible for hiring, developing and supporting our employees. I really enjoy solving problems, improving processes, developing systems and dealing with the organization’s culture. It is great to recruit new employees, meet them for the first time during the interview, guide them on their first working day and see them grow and being a great asset to MSM. I really like the broad range of topics in HR, from being an ‘unofficial’ psychologist, event planner, teacher and much more :)

Working at MSM is more than a job, it is a unique experience…
Working in an internationally oriented environment like MSM means continuously learning about cultural differences and sensitivities. We face numerous (fun) new challenges on a regular basis which makes my job at MSM very rewarding…. .Working at MSM is a unique experience. It has to do with personal fulfilment and the excitement of being involved!

In my spare time you can often find me…
Spending time with our three kids in the age of 8, 7 and 2. We love to see our daughter play field hockey and my son playing the piano. I also like spending time in the kitchen, going out with friends for sushi or drinks… this all together makes me a very happy person! Also nice to mention is that once or twice a week I join outdoor Bootcamp lessons…which boosts my energy, but also gives me a lot of muscular pain :)
