Creating value with the Marketing in a Global Context course: part of MSM’s Full-time MBA

13-03-2020

“The Marketing in a Global Context course as part of the MSM full-time MBA has broadened my understanding of marketing. We not only learned the theoretical framework but also gained practical knowledge, visited companies to put theory into practice and participated in a DIG (Discovery, Innovation Growth) simulation game.” This said current full-time MBA-student Dewi Srirejeki after completing the course.

Dewi continued: “The Marketing in a Global Context course helped me to understand how important marketing is within an organization. The course also taught me that collaboration with other divisions is necessary to gain the most optimal result.”

The course introduced the students to both conceptual tools and practical realities of marketing within globalizing business environments. Through using case studies and examples from various countries, students gained insights on effective marketing practices and were challenged to apply ethical principles in ‘real-world’ contexts.

Dewi’s key learning outcome is the fact that she can now put the marketing concept into practice by using the tools provided by the lecturer, Mr. Oliver Olson, Senior Lecturer in Marketing and Strategy. “Additionally, I learned that user segmentation, market condition and, the right communication to the audience is very useful and important to achieve the marketing objective. Mr. Oliver Olson, provided us with engaging and up-to-date materials. He also created an interactive learning environment to encourage us to share opinions and initiatives."

Before the students went on the company visit to Radium Foam, they already learned the case study in the classroom. The company visit therefore was a great opportunity to gain a deep understanding on how the marketing programs, and business processes are applied by the company. “The chance of having direct interaction with the management also contributed to the learning experience,” said Dewi.

The full-time MBA up until now has provided me with eye-opening knowledge which will be very helpful in my future job,” says Dewi. “Besides the courses, MSM organizes various student activities outside the class: Movie Nights, PechaKucha, well-being weekend and many others.
