Executive MBA students from Nanjing University explore innovation and healthcare management at MSM

15-10-2026

Over the past weeks, we welcomed three groups of Executive MBA students from our long-standing partner, Nanjing University (NJU), to Maastricht.

The study visits brought together professionals from the International Business & Innovation Management and Healthcare Management Executive programmes for an intensive week of learning, knowledge exchange and practical insights into innovation in different sectors.

Exploring creativity and innovation in business

Two groups of Executive MBA students in International Business & Innovation Management of in total 60 students, participated in the course Design Thinking and Creativity, delivered by Dr. Andy Zynga.

Through interactive lectures and discussions, participants explored how design thinking and creative approaches can help organisations address business challenges, develop innovative solutions and respond to changing market conditions.

An important part of the programme was connecting classroom learning with business practice. During company visits to Cargill and Ford, students had the opportunity to gain insights into international business operations and explore how innovation is approached in different industries.

Innovation in healthcare management

Alongside the International Business & Innovation Management groups, MSM also welcomed 35 Executive MBA students in Healthcare Management for the course Innovation and Hatching in Healthcare, delivered by Dr. Daan Westra.

The course focused on innovation within the healthcare sector, encouraging participants to explore new approaches to healthcare management and the development and implementation of innovative solutions.

To complement their classroom sessions, the students visited Philips and Living Lab, gaining practical perspectives on innovation in healthcare and the opportunities and challenges involved in translating new ideas into practice.

Connecting academic knowledge with real-world experience

The study visits combined academic learning with guest lectures, company visits and opportunities for discussion and exchange. By engaging with different organisations and industry perspectives, participants were able to connect theoretical concepts with practical applications relevant to their professional environments.

The visits also provided an opportunity for the students to experience Maastricht and strengthen the connections between MSM and Nanjing University.

MSM values its long-standing collaboration with Nanjing University which dates back to 1999, and looks back on three engaging study visits. We thank all students, lecturers, guest speakers and participating organisations for their contributions to the programmes.
