A sneak peek in the life of Master in Management alumnus Juan Carlos Ramonet
My name is Juan Carlos Ramonet from Mexico. I completed the MSM Master in Management in 2018. After having obtained my Bachelor in Engineering I decided that I wanted to gain more business knowledge. That is why I joined the MSM Master in Management in the Netherlands. Next to my interest in Business and Engineering I am also passionate about Technology, Entrepreneurship, Filmmaking and Music.
Why did you decide to pursue the Master in Management
After my Bachelor I wanted to study a Business Master and the Master in Management from MSM had a lot of the topics I was interested in. I also wanted to experience student life outside my home country and Europe was on the top of my list.
Why did you decide to pursue a Master in Management at Maastricht School of Management?
I was mainly attracted to the curriculum as it focused on a broad range of business topics, perfect for a generalist like me.
Looking back on my time at MSM...
In one word: Awesomely! The student experience in general is such a nice time and more specifically, I enjoyed studying in Maastricht. My fondest memories are the people I met. With some, I am still in contact and many of them changed my life. Actually, my whole study at MSM completely changed my life. I also appreciated the attentive and warm people who work there.
How do you feel your Master in Management at MSM has helped you to prepare for your career?
As already mentioned, the Master in Management has been a life-changing experience. I learned a lot about business. In addition, it also helped me to find a job after graduating. Through this job I received a sponsorship visa, which helped me to stay in the Netherlands, until I got my citizenship. Now I am Dutch :). All of this would not have happened without the initial step of studying at MSM.
Are there any specific skills or lessons learned during your time as a student that you find particularly valuable in your professional or personal life?
I became a lot more disciplined during my Master in Management journey, and a lot more structured. The reading and communicating in English at a Master’s level also helped me to significantly improve my English skills. The Career and Personal Development Track was very helpful to me in many ways. And this track especially helped me to become more disciplined.
My goal for the future…
The Master in Management also contributed to my entrepreneurial dream. I still believe this is the path for me. I am interested in the fields of Technology, Filmmaking and Music so I might focus my entrepreneurial path on one of these fields. I am currently in the process of making a concrete plan of action.
My advice to current and future Master in Management students
Be yourself! This sounds a bit cliché in a way but I do believe that if you are honest to yourself and express who you are and what you feel, you will attract the things that you need. So, do not force it and just be yourself.
