AI for Executives Online| Maastricht School of Management | Maastricht University AI for Executive (Online)

Course objectives

This programme provides you:

  • A confident, leader-level grasp of AI - enough to ask the right questions and challenge the answers, without needing a technical background.
  • The ability to connect AI to strategy, turning it from a set of tools into a source of competitive advantage.
  • A practical, organisation-wide view of where AI creates value - across customer experience, operations, and enabling functions such as Finance, IT, and HR.
  • The judgment to lead AI responsibly, balancing opportunity with bias, fairness, and governance risks.
  • A concrete output you can use: your own AI strategy and roadmap, developed through the Capstone project.

By the end of the programme you will be able to:

  • Cut through the hype - judge what AI can and can't do and evaluate its outputs critically.
  • Lead decisions with AI, managing bias and governance with sound judgment.
  • Apply AI across the customer journey, from acquisition to loyalty.
  • Drive AI across operations and enabling functions (HR, IT, Finance, and more).
  • Set an AI strategy, spot high-value opportunities, and embed Responsible AI.
  • Build a staged roadmap to grow AI capability in your organisation.
My key takeaway of the programme is that AI is not just a technical tool—it’s a strategic enabler. Understanding how to align AI initiatives with business goals is essential for driving innovation and long-term value.

Teaching methods

The programme is designed around active, applied learning rather than passive content consumption. Each module follows a consistent pedagogical structure, providing clarity of progression and ensuring that every week advances from conceptual understanding to practical application and, ultimately, to a tangible deliverable relevant to your organisation. Each module progresses through five stages:

  • Start here - Orientation and framing that establish the strategic rationale for the topic and situate it within a real business context.
  • Learn the essentials - Concise visual lectures and core concepts focused on the knowledge most relevant to senior decision-makers, alongside a curated set of key readings. Each module also provides a practical toolkit - ready-to-use frameworks and instruments you can take directly into your organisation and apply immediately.
  • Apply & validate - Knowledge checks, real-world case studies, and a critical examination of common pitfalls and ethical risks, ensuring a balanced understanding of both effective practice and failure modes.
  • Learn from your peers - Structured discussions in which participants examine current business dilemmas alongside an international cohort of fellow leaders, fostering exchange of perspective and applied insight.
  • Make it yours - A practical assignment that applies each module's concepts directly to your own organisational context, building progressively towards your final strategy. The learning experience is supported throughout by:
  • A dedicated programme support team, available to assist with questions and challenges and to provide structured feedback on each assignment.
  • A Capstone project that consolidates the programme into a single applied outcome: an AI strategy developed for your own organisation and ready for implementation. An overall score of at least 80% is required to obtain the certificate.

The capstone assignment in particular was an incredible experience, taking everything from the course and channeling it into a real-world use case for my own company was both challenging and deeply rewarding. It pushed me to think not just as a technologist, but as a strategist. I genuinely feel more equipped and confident to lead AI initiatives in my organization. This course did not just teach me about AI, it changed how I think about the future of business.
