Exploring Machine Learning and Data Mining – MSM Research Summer School

12-07-2019

“The MSM Research Summer School was a very productive course and educated me on the Machine Learning subject. The course provided me with deeper knowledge on statistical and mathematical concepts and improved my skills on data analysis. The knowledge acquired will be a great contribution to my professional career.” This said Mr. Jenaro after successfully completing the course.

During the first week of July, 13 participants joined the MSM Research Summer School on Machine Learning and Data Mining with Python. The course familiarized the participants with Machine Learning and Data Mining algorithms, using the Python programming language. Participants were taught how to recognize the correct machine learning approach for a given problem and how to implement several different algorithms.

For Ms. Özdemir, a Ph.D. student focusing on the design of a learning system, the knowledge acquired will also contribute to her career prospects. “Having understood the logic behind these “mysterious” models will help me to combine my expert knowledge with machine learning and have more informed opinions.”

The course was taught by Theofrastos Mantadelis, Ph.D. His research interest is in the field of Artificial Intelligence, more specifically in the fields of Logic Programming, Optimizations, Statistical Relational Learning, Compilation of Graphical Models, Complexity Theory, Satisfaction Problems and Abstract Argumentation Frameworks. His work is published in international journals including the Journal of Theory and Practice of Logic Programming, the Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Humanized Computing and in the Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics. His work has also been presented during several leading international conferences.
