Meet MSM's staff members: introducing Previna Samsundar

21-01-2020

At MSM, we are proud of the more than 47 staff members who are committed and eager to fulfill our mission in offering management and entrepreneurship education, advice and research to individuals and organizations from all over the world. To become more acquainted with our staff members and to show you how it feels for them working at MSM we will each month highlight one of our staff members. This month the spotlight will be on Previna Samsundar.

Let me introduce myself…
My name is Previna Samsundar and I work as a receptionist and administrative assistant at MSM. After my studies in radiography and accounting, I have worked for several companies in South Africa. My last job was at Carrier Air-conditioning in South Africa. Lucky enough, the holding company was located in Europe. This made it easier for me to travel.

I decided to move to the Netherlands where I brushed up on my Dutch language skills by doing a literature course at Arcus College (now called Vista College). After obtaining this, I started working as a Customer Service Representative (CSR) for ACCO Brands.  Later on, I switched to ABN AMRO as a CSR for the business sector.

Expecting the unexpected is what drives me…
In my position as receptionist at MSM, I enjoy interacting with people on different levels be it a student, the courier, the cleaning team or a high profile. As I have to multitask at the same time, it can be a bit of a balancing act to keep all balls up in the air. But expecting the unexpected is what drives me. In my position as administrative assistant I am flexible, I work one day in the MSM Information Center and at the MSM Travel Office when my colleague is on holiday.

It gives rise to fascinating conversations and better insight into people…
One of the best things of working in an international environment like MSM is experiencing other cultures. It gives rise to fascinating conversations and better insight into people. It is inspiring to listen to the different conversations during a brainstorm session or debate among the students when I am working at the MSM Information Center.

In my spare time you can often find me…
Doing yoga and meditation. It helps me to de-stress which feed back into my work at MSM as well. Like most of my colleagues, I like to travel and I have been to numerous countries like USA, Dubai, Turkey, India and Thailand. As said, at MSM I meet people from various different countries and nothing is better than getting first-hand information from a local when deciding my next  holiday destination…

Nelson Mandela is the person I admire the most…
The late “Madiba” (Nelson Mandela) is for me the most inspiring person as he has led the transition from “apartheid” to a multiracial democracy. He showed grit and determination and focused on a mission much bigger than himself!
