Unlocking the true value of big data

30-04-2018

On 16 April MSM started with its first 5-day executive education program on Turning Big Data into Competitive Advantage which could be combined with the 5-day e-Government program that has run the week before. The program brought together participants from different backgrounds and from various countries around the world like Morocco, Nigeria, Turkey, and the Netherlands.

Throughout the program the participants worked together in interactive sessions to get a better understanding of big data, data science, data analytics and the competitive advantage of using big data for their organization. Next to this, the participants gained practical experience through hands-on assignments in which they applied various analytical tools to turn sample data into actionable insights. Josephine Aniagolu stated:

“This program opened up an immeasurable vista of unexplored opportunities on how to turn organizational big data into competitive advantage. The data analytic tools introduced, when properly harnessed and utilized, will take our organization to the next level of development. The course further provided models for appraising the e-Government readiness of the public sector at municipal, regional and national levels, identifying gaps and deciding on best remedies to close the gaps. Attending this course has been a great experience. Thank you MSM”.

Apart from Joris Stadhouders, the lead trainer in this program was Vincent Feltkamp, Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems The topics he addressed comprised ways in which data is turned into advantage for world famous companies, the privacy risks for citizens and clients and the data needs of governments and organizations. The combination of the theoretical and practical approach was very much appreciated by the participants.

The participants finalized the course with a presentation and discussion of their own data opportunities and needs, based on the knowledge they gained throughout the program.
