Students of Nanjing Univeristy visit MSM for European study trip

MSM recently welcomed over 30 students of our long term partner Nanjing University for their MBA course in Speed, Design and Creativity. During the course, art and design metaphors were used to sharpen the students’ entrepreneurial mindset and to encourage their personal development as creative human being. The skills course was focused on the two most important triggers for new ventures: generating ideas for new products and services and developing product and service concepts.

On the first day of classes at MSM, students were welcomed by Mr. Meinhard Gans, CEO a.i., and Ms. Katalin Kovacs Dean a.i. Professor Sarah Zhang, Head of the Sino-Dutch International Business Centre (SDIBC) at Nanjing University, also joined the students in Maastricht and wished them good luck with their course.

The course started with intensive work visits to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and Royal Delft. These visits gave the students plenty of inspiration before the start of their classes. A work visit to the Formula 1 race at Spa-Francorchamps was also part of their schedule.

The focus of the courses was on:

  • Opportunity development: one of the core entrepreneurial activities. Finding and validating ideas for new products and services
  • The structure of the creative process
  • Creativity methods, techniques and facilitation
  • Design thinking

In order to assist the students in developing product or service concepts which resonate with the market 15 volunteers were invited to MSM to discuss the students’ ideas. The discussions with the volunteers gave the students the opportunity to test their concepts and to see how their solutions would fit the needs of prospective customers. To students also received a guest lecture on the Business of Design to help them develop their concept which they presented on the last day of classes.

Maastricht School of Management and Nanjing University Business School have a partnership that extends over 20 years.
