Celebrating the 20th MBA Graduation in Kazakhstan

MSM’s Dean a.i. Ms. Katalin Kovacs and Director of Education and Executive Development Mr. David Cass recently visited MSM’s educational partner Almaty Management University in Kazakhstan to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the joint MBA program and to attend the Graduation Ceremony.

The Graduation Ceremony was held on the 25th of October with over 160 MBA students graduating. Part of the Graduation Ceremony was the launch of a student made movie. The student video included the highlights of their two-week study visit to Maastricht which is an integral part of the course. After the Graduation Ceremony the rector of Almaty Management University, Ms. Gulmira Kurganbayeva, presented MSM’s Dean a.i. with a framed tooled leather gift depicting a historic Kazakh scene.

Ms. Kovacs and Mr. Cass also had the opportunity to meet many alumni reaching all the way back to the first cohort at the anniversary event which was held in the Y Bar, owned and run by one of the MBA alumni. Fred Olthof, Head of the Embassy Office of the Netherlands in Almaty, also attended the event. He emphasized the enduring role and importance of the collaboration between MSM and Almaty Management University.

In 1998 MSM and Almaty Management University signed the collaboration agreement. In the same year the first MBA intake started with a specialization in General and Strategic Management. The joint MBA-program is a part-time program with a duration of 24 months. The program is bilingual (English/Russian) and includes a two-week study visit to the MSM campus in Maastricht. Almaty Management University is the oldest private university in Kazakhstan and the first business university of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
