In Memoriam – Prof. dr. h.c. Ir. Ben Veltman

We are very saddened about the passing away of Prof. dr. h.c. ir. Ben Veltman on 16 March 2023 at the age of 90.

Prof. Veltman has held several positions at MSM. From June 1986 until September 1999 Prof. Veltman served as the Chairman of the MSM Board of Trustees. After this period, he has been active for a longer period as Member of the MSM Board of Trustees (2000-2008) and as interim Dean in 2009-2010. 

In these more than 20 years, Prof. Veltman has shown a huge commitment towards the goals of MSM and he made a real contribution to the success of the organisation, for which we are very grateful.

Drawing on his own academic experience, he has always promoted the academic quality of MSM, which was particularly reflected in the students' theses. This has led to MSM awarding the “Professor Ben Veltman Award” to the best student of the year for several years. In these years, the winning students had the honour to receive the award personally from Prof. Veltman during the Graduation Ceremony.

We have come to know Prof. Veltman as a respected and dedicated board member, who always put the interests of the students first. We will remember Professor Veltman’s dedication and commitment to MSM with great appreciation.

Our hearts go out to Prof. Veltman’s family and we wish them strength as they grieve this loss.
