Hands-on digital training delivered in Burundi under BURUDIGI project

16-04-2026

As part of the BURUDIGI – Empowering Burundians with Digital and Entrepreneurial Skills project, a hands-on training mission was successfully carried out in Burundi from March 23 to March 27, 2026.

The training, delivered by Jean Marie Ntwali and Jean Aimable Havyarimana, aimed to strengthen participants’ skills in digital transformation, web development, and no-code tools through a practical and interactive learning approach.

A structured and practical learning experience
The five-day training brought together participants in a dynamic format combining joint sessions and specialized group work. Each day began with a common session focusing on key digital concepts, followed by tailored sessions for two groups:

  • A developer's group, focusing on coding and application development
  • A no-code group, focusing on tools such as WordPress

This structure allowed participants to learn at their own level while benefiting from shared foundational knowledge.

From digital foundations to practical applications
Throughout the week, participants explored core topics such as digital transformation, digital infrastructure, and cloud computing. Practical sessions enabled them to:

  • Install and work with tools such as PostgreSQL
  • Develop applications using the Flask framework
  • Build and improve websites using WordPress

As illustrated in the training sessions, participants were actively engaged in hands-on exercises and collaborative learning activities.

Learning by doing
The training concluded with a practical evaluation session, where participants applied their knowledge by:

  • Selecting topics from the training
  • Conducting simulated training sessions
  • Presenting their work to the group

This "learning by doing" approach helped reinforce both technical and communication skills.

Positive outcomes
The training mission proved successful both technically and pedagogically. Participants demonstrated strong engagement and significant progress in understanding the tools and concepts introduced. The combination of theory, practice, and simulation created an effective learning environment, well adapted to the participants’ needs. This activity marks an important step in strengthening digital capacities under the BURUDIGI project and contributes to building a skilled and confident pool of future digital professionals in Burundi.
