ESG Finance for Entrepreneurs in Djibouti

MSM contributed to international entrepreneurship programme bringing together selected entrepreneurs from across Africa and beyond.

On 23 and 24 August 2026, 40 entrepreneurs from more than 20 countries gathered in Djibouti for an international strategy programme focused on strengthening entrepreneurial growth and development. The participants were selected from a group of around 600 applicants and represented sectors including fintech, agritech and healthtech.

As part of the programme, Dr. Diederik de Boer, Director a.i. MSM / Director Expert Center for Emerging Economies / Associate Professor Sustainable Business Development, delivered a session on ESG finance for entrepreneurs. His contribution focused on how environmental, social and governance considerations can play a role in financing decisions and how ESG-related finance can also create opportunities for smaller enterprises seeking to grow sustainably.

The programme provided participants with an opportunity to further develop their strategic thinking, exchange experiences and connect with entrepreneurs working across different sectors and countries.

MSM partner Nova Business School was the main implementer of the programme, which was organised by C-Star.

Looking ahead, the initiative aims to contribute to the development of a broader knowledge network connecting high-potential entrepreneurs across Africa, supporting continued exchange, collaboration and learning.
