Dutch Ambassador to Lebanon visits MSM

20-11-2019

On Friday 15 November, MSM had the honor to host the Dutch Ambassador to Lebanon, His Excellency Jan Waltmans. Mr. Waltmans visited MSM to discuss MSM’s project portfolio in Lebanon and prospects for future cooperation on capacity-building for local economic development and perspective in the region for refugees.

The Ambassador met with MSM’s CEO, Meinhard Gans, the Director International Projects and Consultancies, Dr. Diederik de Boer, and Dr. Nora Stel, Assistant Professor in Governance, Migration and Human Rights with extensive expertise on Lebanon.

After his visit to MSM, Mr. Waltmans gave a lecture in the Ambassador’s Lecture Series hosted by Maastricht University and MSM titled ‘Working for a Better Future: Netherlands Priorities in Lebanon’. The interactive presentation – with a selection of insightful anecdotes and pictures – was very well attended and resulted in an animated Q&A session. Mr. Waltmans helped shed light on a wide range of pertinent issues, ranging from the massive public protests in Lebanon, the country’s engagement with the large refugee presence it faces, and the logics and dynamics of Dutch policies and initiatives for Lebanon and the broader region.

After the lecture, two MSM students – representing our MBA and MM programs – were selected to join the dinner with the Ambassador and the organizing team to learn more about these various topics and the intricacies of international diplomacy and policy-making.
