A sneak peek in the life of full-time MBA alumna Claudia Martinez
My name is Claudia Martinez and I completed the Full-time MBA in 2019. I have worked in technology and consulting in the aviation industry for over 10 years and I am currently based in Miami, working as a Senior Customer Success Manager at PROS. At PROS, I work in digital transformation and help airlines grow through technology, to increase direct sales, understand demand, and maximise the use of the data and technology to optimise their pricing strategy. I am a curious person and love to learn and share my expertise with others, to innovate and help teams to thrive.
Why did you decide to pursue an MBA in general?
It is good to take a pause in our daily routine to reasses, recharge, learn from others and come back with new perspectives that will benefit you overall; in your job, when working with teams, and in your career.
Why did you decide to pursue a full-time MBA at Maastricht School of Management?
I was looking for an international perspective. One of the beauties of The Netherlands is that geographically the location is amazing; in the middle of other countries that provide this international perspective to the faculty and classes. The city and the country are so friendly and English speaking. Besides, it is an innovative country. Riding the bicycle was another good motivation :).
Looking back on my time at MSM
I look back on my time at MSM with gratitude and appreciation. It was a time dedicated to self-growth, learning and building amazing friendships with international professionals all with the same goals.
Pursuing and MBA is something that I highly recommend not only to become a better professional, but also for your personal growth, enhancing your soft skills, and to strengthen your relationships with friends and colleagues.
What are some of your fondest memories from your time at MSM?
The challenges and most rewarding things came together during my MBA journey. I learned so much from the consultancy project, the programme and support of our mentors and supervisors, winning a changemaker Challenge country-wide but especially opening my perspective and understanding how to become a better consultant.
Are there any specific skills or lessons learned during your time as a student that you find particularly valuable in your professional or personal life?
To be a better consultant by being more analytical, understanding the holistic perspective of a business and contribute with more well-founded solutions. In addition, I learned a lot from the diversity in the class room. I currently work with international teams which provides a broader perspective and is an instrumental element, in my opinion, for innovation. I also joined the mentorship programme which is part of the Career and Personal Development Track (CPDT). I found this experience very valuable and am grateful for the opportunity to learn and practice in the business environment of a new country.
My goal for the future
I am looking forward to keep contributing to my industry in a positive way and the company I work for. In addition, I always try to share my knowledge and skills with my customers and colleagues in the most beneficial way.
My advice to current and future MBA students
To learn from all the subjects of the programme as much as possible as you might find a shift in your career by getting a broader and better perspective of your skills. Also realise what makes you happy, what the world needs and find a purposeful new path after your MBA-experience. Stay active and interact with all the opportunities happening around you!
