Jeroen is currently partner at DLA Piper – the international law firm. He is a lawyer by training (EU Law and Public International Law, University of Maastricht 1990) and specialized in international relations and EU affairs. He brings extensive diplomatic experience to the team as a former member of the Dutch diplomatic service (1990-2001) where he held postings in The Hague (Legal & Political UN Directorate), Former Yugoslavia (observer missions), Vienna (Permanent Mission of the Netherlands to the OSCE), Beirut (Deputy Chief of Mission of the Netherlands Embassy) and Brussels (European Commission secondment). He was also appointed National (Economic) Sanctions Coordinator (1993-1996) in the Netherlands. Before joining DLA Piper, Jeroen worked for a global energy company in oil & gas where he was responsible for regulatory, government affairs and business development (2001-2005).
Leading the EU Regulatory and Government Affairs Practice of DLA Piper in Brussels, Jeroen and his team focus on providing corporate clients with legal, regulatory advocacy and policy advice, mainly related to highly regulated sectors such as banking & financial services, technology/e-commerce, aerospace & defence, energy, transport, environment, biotechnology & life-sciences and international trade. Jeroen also leads the sanctions and export control practice in Brussels, advising clients on legal and compliance issues relating to EU and UN sanctions regimes. In addition to corporate clients, a significant number of foreign governments and diplomatic missions in Brussels are supported by the EU Regulatory and Government Affairs team. The services provided include regular legal advice as well as advice on Diplomatic/Consular law, Public International Law, EU Law & Policy as well as matters relating to international trade.
