Countries need to adapt to disruptions in the field of technological innovations, ecological changes, economic development and social changes. Entrepreneurs and private sector organisations can play an important role in dealing with these changes in developing appropriate products and services and in delivering societal and ecological impact. Female and male entrepreneurs promote innovation, they create jobs, and bring economic prosperity. Nonetheless, in many countries the number of women economically participating as entrepreneurs is much lower than men, leading to a large untapped potential on a worldwide scale.
“I have been running my business for already seven years and I think that the knowledge I gained through the Women Entrepreneurship Policy programme, will help me with the expansion and entrance to global markets.”
Maria Masliy (Ukraine) participant of the July 2022 programme
Women entrepreneurship deals with stimulating the participation of women in business. Businesses and enterprises can thrive if the ecosystem is stimulating and well-developed and where the entrepreneurship policy framework is functioning well. Aspects within this framework which are of great importance are access to capital and networks, a facilitating legislative environment and supportive social norms. Next to the entrepreneurial environment businesses thrive in, entrepreneurship is also about more psychological topics of e.g. self-confidence, self-esteem and resilience, which are closely related to women’s empowerment.
“My decision to join the Women Entrepreneurship Policy program is due to the need to explore more in this specific field, as content on this topic is usually not available in the community I live in, or at least not in this depth. I believe that in order to change, I need to have the knowledge to understand all aspects of the women entrepreneurship policy framework"
Aynoor Elberwaki (Lybia), participant of the July 2022 programme
