Eastern Africa - Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda - 2007/2008

This training was designed on request of the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF). The AWF, with a presence in 12 countries in Africa plays an important role in enhancing conservation and local development through tourism in the 4 selected East African countries for this training: Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania.

The purpose of the training was to strengthen the capacity of facilitating organizations around National Parks (community leaders, district planners, tourism developers, guides, trainers etc.) in Eastern Africa related to sustainable tourism development, conservation and economic development. Experts from the implementing Consortium, comprising of MSM (lead partner), Wageningen University – WICE, NHTV and SNV East and Southern Africa have trained the groups in the different sessions. Field visits were included during the training to several Community Based Tourism initiatives (including public private partnerships) to share best practices.
