Design of the MBA Programs

Our MBA programs are designed to stimulate creative management thinking and to meet the needs of candidates lacking the theoretical underpinning and training required for application of management knowledge into practice. The program consists of four segments, starting with a Foundation segment, providing a solid knowledge base in each of the major management disciplines. The following Core segment offers courses with a broader focus. The Specialization segment contains a number of expert specializations. These are more integrated and often use a multidisciplinary approach towards the subjects. Participants choose one out of five specializations offered. The program is completed by the writing of a master’s thesis, based on a current business research project of your choice (Performance segment).

The MBA Programs offered at MSM are dynamic and intensive. They reflect a policy that stresses contemporary specializations, experiential learning, optimum use of time, and industry-relatedness.

Distinctive Competencies of MSM:

  • Outstanding reputation in management education
  • One-year MBA program/Two year part-time Executive MBA Program
  • Contemporary curriculum
  • Multicultural student body
  • Dedicated international staff
  • English as language of instruction
  • Global alliances
Figure 1 shows the modular build-up of the MBA Programs offered at MSM. After a short introduction week and a week on interpersonal skills training (report writing, presentation skills, time and stress management, etc.), the Program starts with the Foundation Segment which provides participants with a solid basis for the rest of the Program. The Foundation Segment is followed by the Core Segment, which consolidates the functional base of the Foundation. During the Specialization Segment, the participant develops expertise in a particular specialization. During the Performance Segment, participants are required to prepare and present a project research paper based on a business topic of their own choice.

Structure and Organization

During the Foundation and Core Segments, courses are conducted in a highly structured manner. All participants are required to take the same subjects and follow the same timetable. During the Specialization Segment, participants branch out into their respective specializations. Official tests, examinations and outside class assignments are used for the basis of assessment performance for the Foundation, Core and Specialization Segments.

Foundation Segment

The Foundation Segment of the MBA Program consists of a number of subject courses that develop analytical skills. These skills are required to facilitate absorption of the material in subsequent advanced courses. It is necessary for participants to pass the Foundation courses before they can proceed with the rest of the Program.

Core Segment

The Core Segment of the Progam provides a framework within which all Foundation subjects are blended into an integrated overall combination of management know-how. The courses focus on Strategic Management, Management Control Systems, E-commerce, Organizational Behavior and International Business issues that general managers need to have knowledge of in order to be effective in their organizations.

Specialization Segment

In the Specialization Segment of the Program, participants start to work in their particular specialization. The specializations offered include Accounting and Finance, International Business, E-Business and Information Technology and Corporate Strategy and Economic Policy.

Requirements for Obtaining the Masters Degree

All MBA programs consist of a predetermined number of courses with an assigned number of credits. During the first four months of the Program, in the Foundation Segment, all basic aspects of management are covered. Each Program consists of 80 ECTS credits in total, broken down into subjects to be taken in three segments, with each segment ending in written examinations and assignments. Evaluation of the performance of the participants is based on formal written subject examinations, evaluation of oral presentations, group projects, written reports, test results, and participation in general.

Participants whose performance within the Foundation Segment falls below the required academic standards will be advised not to continue the degree Program after completion of this segment. A participant whose performance is considered unsatisfactory will not be awarded the MBA Degree. Participants graduate upon successful completion of the entire Program.

Candidates who have an average of 80 or above for the subjects and for their research project, did not do any resit tests and have completed at least 30 ECTS credits at MsM, will receive their degree with distinction.
