Research proposal
MSM invites research proposals relating to the School's theme of 'problems of public, private, and intercultural management in emerging economies.' This theme encompasses topics relating to measurement, analysis and evaluation; entrepreneurship; information technology and organizational transformation; management of public agencies; problems of globalization; competitiveness and technology strategy; human capital development; capacity-building; e-commerce and economic development; ethics and governance; and international joint ventures and alliances. We particularly value comparative and cross-border studies, but proposals focused on a single country may also be accepted.
The following items should be addressed in your Preliminary Research Proposal:
Title
Section 1. Introduction
1.1 General description of the area of concern; The topic of the preliminary research proposal must normally fall within one of the research themes current at the Maastricht School of Management. The positioning of your research within a particular area of theoretical debate should be included.
1.2 Problem to be studied.
1.3 Objective(s) of the proposed research project.
1.4 The relevance of the research.
1.5 The hypotheses/ideas guiding the planned research activities.
1.6 Major Research Question.
1.7 Minor Research Questions.
1.8 Significance of the Problem and Justification of the Investigation; the positioning of the research within a particular area of theoretical debate.
1.9 Feasibility of proposed Study.
1.10 The qualifications of the applicant, to prove their suitability for the program.
Section 2. Literature Review
2.1 Current Scholarly Literature relevant to Research Questions and Hypotheses.
Where in the Contemporary Literature is the Current Problem rooted?
Section 3. Methodology
3.1 Research Design (Paradigm, Methods, etc.) i.e. Quantitative, Qualitative or mixed approach.
3.2 Draft a schematic drawing of the Research Design: in order to better understand and conceptualize your research project, draw a simple design using circles, squares and arrows.
3.3 Data collection Methods and Instruments, Tools for measuring variables-schedules, and Questionnaires (Scales, Check Lists, Devices, Indexes, Observation Procedures and Ranking).
3.4 General characteristics of the Study Population.
3.5 The Location of Setting in which the Study is to take place.
The Geographic Dimensions of Study Population.
3.6 Calendar of Events in carrying out Study.
3.7 Ethical Considerations.
Section 4. Your qualifications
4.1 Your qualifications, to prove your suitability for the program and for this research in particular.
The preliminary research proposal should have a maximum of 1,500 words.
